A day in paradise in Hawaii

  1. Finally a nice day !
      1. Finally we have a nice day here in Hawaii Kai.
      2. For the last three weeks we have had total cloudy skies, strong winds and some rainfall.
      3. Ten days ago, there was snow on the volcano mountains Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
      4. So today I took a walk around the neighborhood, and  then drove to some popular beach areas.
      5. The landscapers here recently planted a small coconut tree behind my house.
      6. It will be several years before there are any coconuts.
      7. And since it is Mothers Day here, neighbors put up some signs to show appreciation.
      8. Walking to the Clubhouse, I came upon a Hawaiian “apple banana tree” with fruit.
      9. This is not a cross between apples and bananas.
      10. I don’t know how this type got its name.
      11. These are a special variety, sweeter than the imported bananas and they will stay fresh for a long time.
      12. In the grocery stores, these sell out fast.
      13. I have to come back another day as these are not ripe yet.
      14. And nearby a Papaya tree with fruit, though not ripe yet.
      15. And here is our Clubhouse where we can hold birthday parties, meetings and many other functions.
      16. It has a beautiful view of the marina.
      17. And our swimming pool.
      18. The turquoise blue water looks so inviting.
      19.   I’m sure many people will come today since it is such a nice day.
      20. I decided to take a short drive from here, and stopped at the cove at Halona Blowhole Lookout.
      21. And looking towards the famous Sandy Beach, there’s a rugged coastline
      22. And here, is the famous Sandy Beach.
      23. A beautiful white sand beach,  it’s known for good body surfing.
      24. But be careful, the water is shallow and can be dangerous.
      25. Bright orange warnings flags are up for dangerous and rough ocean conditions today.
      26. But there were some surfers out in the water today, though a little rough.
      27. Sorry this photo is blurry, it’s a closeup but hard to photograph moving objects.
      28. There were some larger waves behind him.
      29. And in the parking lot at Sandy Beach, a colorful restroom.
      30. It’s painted with whales, dolphins and fish.
      31. A Hawaiian theme.
      32. Further down there was a gentleman flying a kite.
      33. And to the right side of this photo is a pigeon, not another kite.
      34. The winds here are usually too strong to fly kites. But sometimes when the winds are not too strong, there will be some giant kites, and also many kites on one string.
      35. Today was pretty nice to fly a kite.
      36. A little walk away at the far end of Sandy Beach were the tide pools.
      37. Lots of little hermit crabs, and small fish.
      38. And another view of the tide pools.
      39. And then a short drive home for lunch.  Just another day in Hawaii Kai.  But a beautiful day in paradise.
      40. Until next time, aloha
